The need to increase rice production for food security is enormous as demonstrated by the expansion of area planted with rice and rice production over the past six years .However, most of the rice produced in Uganda is the irrigated type (paddy rice) largely produced in wetlands where it is easy to access water for irrigation. A Law now restrains producing paddy rice from wetlands.
