Upland Rice production provides farmers with opportunities for improved household nutrition and income, thus improving their standards of living. The demand for rice in Uganda is high; a major proportion of this demand has been satisfied by imports from Asia. Farmers have respondent to the demand for rice by growing low land rice. Upland rice production provides farmers with added opportunity to produce enough rice to meet the domestic demand and even for export while relieving pressure on the wetlands. Upland rice is thus becoming an important enterprise.
