Mr. Robert BariyoBarigye

Heholds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree majoring in Financial Management from the University of Pune. He also holds several short & medium term professional training certificates in the field of Microfinance and Enterprise Development from local and International institutions. He has vast experience of rural development, having worked with USAID’s Rural Savings Promotion and Enhancement of Enterprise Development (Rural SPEED Project) as a Rural Finance Specialist (Linkage Banking), Enterprise Uganda as a Senior Enterprise Development Officer, Uganda Cooperative Alliance (UCA) as a Rural Finance Coordinator and is currently working with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

In his current role as the Assistant Commissioner for Cooperative Development and Policy, he is responsible for creating an enabling environment and policy framework for the development of the cooperative movement, and enforcing compliance of regulatory requirements. He has extensive experience in capacity building and institutional development of Youths and Women Groups, VSLAs, Financial Institutions and Civil Society Organizations. Robert also brings a wealth of experience from the Boards of other key institutions; being a member of the Board of Directors of Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA) and the Microfinance Support Centre Limited (MSCL).
