Before reforms in NAADS and even after, we see NAADS support to Tea farmers and Diary sectors in Western districts citrus farmers in Eastern Uganda recieve support in the order of 400-700m in addition to 100m every sub county recieves.
Issues;
i) what is the criteria of allocating such resources?
ii) which districts/farmers are eligible for secretariate funding?
iii) Can NAADS secretariate support other cash crops like cotton by way of refurbishing ginneries?
iv) where is equity in distribution of NAADS funds?
I have access to 80 acres of land in nakasongola and i would like to do tree planting on it , What advise would you give me . And is it a viable industrial to tap into. What are the pros and cons of the tree planting business.
Eleanor, if you dedicate the land to tree planting you will be advantaging the Eco system with abundant rain and all that come with tree planting, you will then have to wait for 5-10 years to start harvesting trees if they are first maturing. it is a good investment but you will have to be patient.
Hello NAADS
I do appreciate the work done countrywide but to my surprise l started project of helping orphans & Needy children in Bududa Bunabumali Village in 2004-update
l started growing coffee on family basis and also started Banana plantations, Sugarcane plantation and Cattle keeping with Poultry bt l have ever requested for any single supply of advise, support, help towards my goals l have failed !! My question who are the beneficiaries of NAADS programme ? Am l legible to get support or Not? please
Yes Emmanuel your eligible as all people from the age of 18 and above are for NAADS support just approach your sub county to register your self, you can also send a proposal on possible support from NAADS to the Executive Director NAADS.
For assistance or support from NAADS, what is the right procedures that are taken before to become a member of NAADS.Is only registering your Farm or there are other requirements needed, so there try to educate me briefly.
I appreciate NAADS for the good work and services to people, now my farm is in Bitabago, Lwanda sub-county, Kooki-Rakai District. I want to extend this Farm to a piggery section of which at the beginning, 10 female piglets are needed as a parent stock for production, but i would like to know where to get a good hybrid nearby.(large white or land race).
Geoffrey, please call this number 0772591514 for piglets as per your request and for NAADS Support you can register with your sub county NAADS office which will guide you on other procedures for NAADS Support.
I have parent stock for Black-layers and Brown layers but no buyers for chicks could you please assist me to find to some farmers. my firm is in Mukono Kauga.
Hullo Mr. Ssejjengo, can you please contact me using my address: geofreylubuulwa@yahoo.com, +252-699450536, +256-774843027.
Your birds are local or hybrid? if its hybrid that is good.
Thanx 4 your email, now give me your full Address and contacts such that it can help me in making a clear booking with you. Can you give me 500 chicks (layer-type)at once.
I thought there is something that the ministry of agriculture is doing to save farmers from making losses. Recently I purchased 10Kg of treated maize seeds. About 100 seeds where able to germinate from the seeds planted in 2 acres.
I am to employ labor tomorrow and even purchase untreated seeds to be planted ( what a loss!). Are you really helping us. Do you really monitor the seeds to be put on market.
Christopher, a number of initiatives have been undertaken to regulate farm inputs in the markets as you its not easy since the market is liberalized. But i will in indeed relay your discontent to those responsible in the Ministry of Agriculture.
To whom It may concern and be of help,
My name is Charles Bitwayiki based in UK with roots in Uganda, basically hails from Kabale migrated to Ankole Isingiro and I have a small farm in Kashari 10 miles from Mbarara town I have a few local cows and goats. I need some one with knowledge and expertise about farming so that I can make it more modern.
Also I would like to grow lots of fruits in my Village in Isingiro such as mangoes apples on large scale Please let me know where I can get good seedlings and possibly where I can borrow some money to make my projects modern.
I will be Glad if my inquiry will paid attention to.
Thanks
Yours Charles B Bitwayiki
Charles, to make your farm modern and also using high quality inputs, you need to get a committed farm manager who can register your farm with NAADS to secure support. NAADS doesn’t give money but it provides support inform of inputs. Improved fruit trees can be got from the research institute in Mbarara or Kabale, MUZARDI/KARZADI.
am realy tied of carring this question 4 all that log without an answer, do me afavor plz , am unemplyed youth willing to start rearing layers but i needto first know , how many bags of feeds do 200 layers eat per week?
if i hav 200 layers how many iron sheets do i need to hav and if i hav 200 broilars how many iron sheets do i require?
i can help you on the amount of feed consumed per week.
Complete starter feeds for Leghorn-type or light breed replacement pullets should contain 20 to 22 percent protein,,,80 kg for each 100 birds for the first 6 weeks…then you can reduce the protein percent to 18% for 8-10 weeks….laying chickens at around 22 weeks need about 70 kilo per week….you can multiply this by 2 to get for 200 chickens
Gonza, here is more detailed information. It is a petty that NAADS after so many years in operation does not have basic information that people can use to make decisions before they invest in agriculture.
Body weights and feed requirements of leghorn-type pullets and hens.

I have 6 acres of land in Kitalegerwa which is about 15 miles from Mityana towards Mubende. I would like to make good use of it in terms of crops that a well suited for the area and require minimum supervision. I would appreciate your advice on a way forward. Please bear in mind that I am not any good at Agricultural prcatices. I was thinking of vegetables like tomatoes, green pepper and onions and ginger. I will appreciate your help in this area. Thanks
Flavia, thank you for the interest you have in agriculture. Unfortunately you have not clearly indicated the district where the land is situated in this case am going to advise you to contact the District NAADS coordinator for more information on the best crops to grow in the area he may as well connect you with other farmers to share experiences and advise. Here are numbers for Mubende and Mityana respectively since they seem to be close to where you are. Mubende Fredrick Kisakye no. 0772474306 and Mityana Daniel Sseremba no. 0772575953.
kindly advise me on where and how I can attain literature on hybrid goats and turkeys. I specifically fancy trying out the planned fenced off(not sure of the technical term)for both goats and Turkeys.
Zosimas, thank you for checking out the blog and writing in. You can access literature on hybrid goats from our website under NAADS publications- technical manuals or alternatively visit our well stocked library at the secretariat on Legacy Towers, Block B plot 5 Kyadondo road, Nakasero. However we do not have literature on Turkeys but it will soon be availed.
i have five acres of land in mukono and its not productive. I spend all the time in Kampala working. Can you please advise me on which projects i can put on that land that require minimum supervision? i would also appreciate detailed literature on such projects. I also dont have much starting capital, so i would settle for small capital projects. Thank you
Richard, thank you for the enthusiasm you have shown for Agriculture but i will give you the contact no of the District NAADS Coordinator who will advise you accordingly since she is on the ground and also how you can be supported by NAADS. Please call Alyce Nyanzi on Tel no. 077579517.
David, no need to worry, all proposals sent to the NAADS email address have been retrieved but its unfortunate that those who sent their concept notes and proposals form 28-31/8/2011 couldn’t get an acknowledgement of receipt email; we apologize for that. For your own sanctification you can also bring the proposal at our new offices before 8/9/2011. Please check the anew address below
